Lydie Polfer was born on November 22, 1952 in Luxembourg.

Education and qualifications

• After completing a Master’s degree in Law at Grenoble University, she obtained a Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies (D.E.A.) in European Integration at the Centre Universitaire de Recherches Internationales et Européennes, Grenoble in 1977.

• Admitted to the Luxembourg Bar in 1977.

  • Member of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies (June 1979 to October 1985, June 1989 to June 1990, 1994 to 1999, and 2009 to present)
  • Member of the European Parliament (1985 to 1989, 1990 to 1994, and 2004 to 2009)

  • Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of the Civil Service from 1999 to 2004
  • Vice-Chair of the Chamber of Deputies (2009 to 2013)
