Stephan Besier graduated in urban and environmental planning in Kaiserslautern. He works as a consultant for urban and transport planning based in Leipzig. He is a member of expert groups for guidelines in public transport planning in Germany (FGSV, VDV) and Switzerland (VSS). In his international activities, Stephan Besier was involved in projects in Germany, Italy (South Tyrol) and Scandinavia. In the course of his focus on infrastructure design and urban integration of light rail systems, he offers an interdisciplinary approach to infrastructure design and urban integration of light rail systems, and, in particular, he develops design concepts as well as projects for the design of streetscapes. Important projects include the design concept for the Emmeram tramway in Munich, design expertise for the 3rd construction phase of the north-south urban railway in Cologne and urban design studies for light rail line 5 in Dresden. Most recently, Stephan Besier worked on new light rail projects in Erlangen, Kiel and Wiesbaden. Another field of activity is “classic” public transport planning for light rail, bus and rail. In South Tyrol, he has worked on numerous projects for the introduction of the “SüdtirolTakt” integral interval time schedule based on the Swiss model, e.g. the Vinschgerbahn. Stephan Besier is currently developing the Bus Strategy 2030 for Bolzano.For 20 years now, he stayed involved in projects in Leipzig.
